Honest Riches Or Filthy Rich?

Posted by admin On April - 6 - 20091 COMMENT

The term filthy rich implies that riches cannot be acquired by a fair mean.  It evolves from the term filthy lucre used since the 16th century. William Tindale was the first to use that phrase in “Teachinge thinges which they ought not, because of filthy lucre.”  Since then, gathering riches have been associated with being filthy and by unfair means.  In fact the infamous TV series take on this  theme of acquiring riches by unfair means and rack in some riches for the producer.  The Riches centers on an American family.   The Malloy family, the father and three children are doing what they do best – con others – while the mother is due to be released from prison. So far, the Malloys have spent their lives as gypsies amongst their extensive travelers clan. However, this soon changes when the family is forced to leave the clan behind. They take off in their RV, but not without cleaning out the clan’s cash stash.

Now, unsure where to go and what the future holds, the Malloys are struck by yet another misfortune when they are involved in a car accident.  The father, however, is not one to give up so easily. He has the ‘brilliant’ idea of taking on the identities of the Riches, the couple killed in the car accident. The Malloys head to the house recently purchased by the Riches and take up residence.

Liars just like Pinocchio, they begin their journey of the filthy rich.  If you have watched this series, you can be your own verdict of their unscrupulous means.

So is there honest riches?  In this age of internet marketing, there seem to have tons of promotion materials promising overnight riches, instant millionaires and luxurios lifestyles and Hollywood fame. Is there truth in their claim?  Are these people amassing their wealth honestly or filthily?  Do they become filthy rich by over-charging their products and under-delivering their promises?
